I hate to be the barer of bad news..... BUT, when I got my rooms in D.C. today, she said she had,    NO MORE THAN "10" LEFT for RFTW time frame.   And that was at 4 p.m. this afternoon.  Just saying.......

Registration has not opened yet but will soon, the BOD has been working on some changes that will help. As for Hotels, once again people are jumping the gun, I know that this is usual however there have been some changes and riders are requested to wait until the list comes out on the 15th. Please refrain from booking your rooms until the gun sounds so that all have a shot. The Hotel list comes out on the 15th. Semper Fi

What are you saying charger? That 12 years experience is wrong? A lot of people book their rooms for the next year as they walk out the door the current year. "IF" you are interested in staying at the "host" hotels, the best way is to book according to last years list of hotels and when the new list comes out, make the changes needed. I'm booked clear across, some host, some not, I don't like some of the host hotels. But, I found if I wait I run into, "Sorry, we're all booked up". And that has already happened twice this year to me, so, you do what y'all think best....   I'm just saying!

I have tried several times to book the next years room in Arlington and have always been told I would have to wait until they released to block of rooms.  I called today and no rooms are left at the "host hotel". I did find a room at the Westin Arlington Gateway, which is walking distance from the host hotel. As of 2pm today they still had a number of rooms available. The contact number is 703-717-6200

Sunday is the Grand-daddy of all rides, the Rolling Thunder event from the Pentagon parking lot.  RFTW assembles early and we go over there in formation, then wait about 6 hours before our turn to roll.  This is time to relax, eat from the vendors who are ready for us, meet strangers, and watch for the B-52 fly-over.

This is where you have to remember where your bike is parked, or you may never find it- you will never have seen so many motorcycles in one place.

The actual ride is a chaotic 15 minutes once you roll- then the planned events of RFTW 2011 go into the history chronicles.

You will be sitting on your bike heading home with a story to tell!!!

Good morning every one. I read some posts this AM from a # of experienced riders, in fact, I read them many times!! I'm a FNG, I don't know any thing about the routine of the ride, the routes, the "host" hotels (where, phone numbers, etc). I'm still trying to absorbe all of info on what to bring!! I am "not" an experienced rider, I'm on a brand new HD Triglide and am going to have "maybe 3-5 weeks to learn how to ride it, let alone ride it "loaded". Aside from 40+ years of really bad memories (like many of you can relate to) and like myself, still do today,I personally don't need this new c--p about hotels! Some are jumping the gun--some are waiting.IF, I deciede to make this run, I may have to do it alone or follow the pack from a distance with "no" afflication to RFTW!! I'm a FNG and when I first read what was happening and some of the comments made, I saw nothing but "attitude"and I'll take care of myself first.I saw this same "attitude" in country, I didn't like it than and I don't like it now!! I thought "attitude" was supposed to be checked at the door?? This is NOT a personal attack against any one, every one is entitled to their own opinion, and their own way of doing things, but go back to your "begining" on RFTW and put your selfs in my place,a FNG!!! Since I logged on to the forum as a FNG attempting to do every thing from Canada, I've been overwhelmed with info. in order to get this done in the safest and most help full ways as possible and for that I so greatful! I'm sure that I won't be the "only" FNG trying to do his or her best to make what is going to be an extremely emotional and for some a "giant" step in their life, including me. My orders were to "stand down" until Dec/15/11 and that's what I will do-- rooms or no rooms!! Respectfully submitted, MONGOOSE--

Mongoose..... you won't have to do this run alone.  There are some riders that will register and ride outside the pack.  They leave early for the next stop or follow behind.  They are still part of the run and participate in all activities.  Some don't feel comfortable riding in tight formation so they opt to ride ahead.  If you decide to do this you will probably find other rider that are doing the same.  As far as hotels, look on the left side of the home page and click itinerary/hotels.  Select 2010 hotels for the route you're riding and you will see last years list with phone numbers.  Those that have ridden this run for a few years realize the hotels hardly ever change.  I understand this year there may be some changes but I would wager only one or two.  I will say in my opinion...if a person wants to go ahead and register now that is between him/her and the hotel.  (ok...here it comes)  The powers that be probably realize very few are going to wait for the list to come out.  I only saw one post telling everyone to wait and that was probably an injustice to the FNG's. That being said, don't sweat the hotel situation.  The list will have two or more at each overnight stop.  They are usually very close if not right beside each other.  You will find rooms.  However, I agree with the other post here.  Don't wait.  My opinion/only saying/if i register now, that's between me and the hotel/and all the other lame excuses.  BTW,  each year I make a list of names that I see posting and that I talk with on this forum.   This is my must meet list.  Some I meet on the way....some I see when we get to DC.  Fair warning... You're on my list.  Are yo riding SR or CR?

Mongoose;  This was my first year to go all the way and I did wait till the Hotel list came out for all my rooms.  I managed to get rooms at most of the Host hotels including California and Washington DC.  I was on a waiting list and got  the DC room when someone canceled.
There are never enough rooms at the host hotel but the list will include others that many of the riders will stay at.
You won't be alone and after you finish the run and get back to the host hotel or one of the others on Saturday night you will understand why so many people try to book early for the DC Host hotel.  Some people stay for Rolling Thunder on Sunday and others Leave heading Home or Wherever but Saturday night is the Last day you will see old and new friends for maybe a year.
RFTW is Family and When you ride RFTW 2011 you will be part of it and on that long ride home all you will be thinking about is RFTW 2012'

See you in May Brother.

If things come together, Central!!
I appreciate your comments bud,but----
I'm honered to be on your list. If I can get my hands on a few Canadian "pins", I'll make sure you will get one.
I've been asked to teach some members how to speak "Canadian", that should be easy, just practice saying "eh"
Thanks again,

Mongoose, I apologize if I have offended you in any way. I did not intend to.

When the list is posted go ahead and make your reservations as soon as you can. If you wait until March or April there will be no rooms available at some stops. You can cancel them if you decide to either go on your own or not go at all. We are a very large group on each route and some of the towns that we travel through simple get filled to capacity for the night we are there. Some do jump the gun and try to ensure that they have a room. It works for some and doesn't for others. I don't know of any way to prevent that. On the Southern Route there will be some stops that are different than last year due to hotel changes and possible overnight stop changes. That is why we were told to wait. I don't know about the Central Route.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not postpone making this trip. It is one that many of us need and some of us (myself included) didn't realize how much we needed the healing that can happen with this ride.

Your riding season is limited. I didn't realize where you live earlier. If you can hook up with Hard Charger or some of the others coming from the NW region of the US you will get some of that ride time in on the way down. Take advantage of whatever chance you get to ride. Riding a trike will not have the balance issues of a loaded 2 wheeler.

It is a long trip to make and for most of us it is very emotional. We are very organized and have chase trucks and trailers if needed. If you are behind the pack or on your own they will not be available to you if needed. Every year we have new riders or riders with limited experience. It is something that the leadership expects and it gets handled. Things have a way of working out if given a chance. Please join us. You will be welcomed.

My first year was in 2007 and I intend to make as much of the trip as money and vacation time will allow for as long as I can ride, 2 or 3 wheels.

Just make your reservations as soon as you can and hold off on making that final decision until the time is much closer. I hope to meet you in California.
