Welcome home and thank you for your service.  I was an FNG last year and it was amazing!
In 2013 we plan to ride from Austin, TX (May 11) to Rancho Cucamonga, CA and ATW to Washington, D.C. I will need to be back in Austin no later than June 2. . . some of us have to return to work and take care of our Veterans Smile

Count me in as an FNG for the 25th RFTW. Glad to see this posting is already alive. Been wanting to make this ride for a long, long time. Planning on doing ATW. The planning has started....

footster,
Welcome to the forum, and Welcome Home.
Thank You for your service.
I, like you, will be an FNG for 2013, amd for me this has been a long long time in reaching the point of deciding I gotta do this.
I have found the most wonderful people on the forum, although I have not met any of them yet. You will learn a lot from them, as I am almost on a daily basis, they are fantastic, and I believe that is just the tip of the iceberg compared to finally riding with them.
My planning has started also.... like the ole scout motto..."be prepared"...lol...or at least as much as ya can...
See ya in May

Welcome Home
I replied to this the other day and am not sure that it went thru.  I will also be riding from Texas (Victoria area) to the RFTW.  I am an FNG also and will be camping the whole way  If your group would like a tag along riding from Texas to Calif.  please get in touch with me for I would like to have the company.

dkelley986,

Watch this space.  There is a huge contingent of riders who hook up for the ride from the Southeast through Texas and on to California.  They practice the skill set for riding RFTW, with planned stops for overnights, food, and fuel.

Lots of stories connected to that, from the unfortunate new road names for some, to the time the Police stopped them thinking they were an invading motorcycle gang!

Company?  Fear not, you will have company!

Welcome home, Footster, and welcome to the family! Thank you for your service! You are in for the adventure of a lifetime. Sidewalk (LaiKhe67tc) is right, there will be lots of opportunity to hook up with others for the ride to RC as well as the ride home from DC. We are family and nobody rides alone who doesn't want to. As the time grows nearer, and especially after the first of the year, there will be loads of tips and advice on every aspect of preparing for the Run. This was my FNG year and I found the information shared here essential and invaluable. There is no question you can't ask and no situation somebody else hasn't faced and figured out an answer for. See you in RC.

Come on over to the Kerrville reunion next month. Not far from Victoria, and you can meet and hang out with a bunch of folks who can help with questions you may have about the Run.
look on the website for the details under reunions, we may have a few laughs while we are there.Wink

I was the President of the VVA Chapter in Grand Junction, CO when the first RFTW came through there. We met the group at the Utah/Colorado state line, and escorted them into town. I made up my mind then and there that I was going to participate someday. Hopefully, 2013 will be the year. I planned to do it on two previous occasions, but something always came up. It's something I have to do. I'm already looking at motels, trying to decide whether to camp or go with motels. Any suggestions for an FNG are more than welcome.

Princess, Raven here, we live in Bandera so not too far from you.  My email is 2cnormans@gmail.com, should you have any questions or concerns.  Come to Kerrville, we would all love to meet you.  You will find  several groups heading to Rancho in May and you can meet many at Kerrville in Spet.  The CDR is one group, will give you practice on way out of how we ride and lots of leadership on the trip out, it is an unofficial ride out, still lots of great riders and good information given.  Serveral others will be headed out as well and all are open.  Watch the forum and as time get closer all will be seen on the forum.     If you ride out our way any, please email me and get our numbers, would be more than happy to met!   Hope to see you in Kerrville

@hdtom
be careful about assuming the cities are the same in 2013. The 2013 itinerary has NOT been approved nor posted as of yet. This is a significant undertaking by each of the Route Coordinators and their staff. Typically the posted route does not finalize until closer to New Years.

Seabee- The FAQ page is full of very good information. Continue to read all the posts on the Forum and you will be amazed at all the info you will get. Around the first of the year, after the routes have been finalized, it will really pick up.

I know on the SR we hade several go last year.  They do not travel with the pack but attend the functions.  If on CR, I am sure someone will pipe in.   There should be no reason why he can not go.
