La Posta Restaurant in Las Cruces for excellent Mexican food.  It's the Annual Friday night get together when the Dallas group heads to RC and changes from the PPB to The Desert Renegades.

Exit 140  off I-10  Same exit as southern rt for the  stop at Barnetts Harley Davidson.  Don't reccomend the Comfort suites there,  Better hotels across I-10

4Riden..........If you plan to RON in the El Paso/Las Cruces area get a hold of me. Besides La Posta that Nighttrain (DitchWitch) is so right about, there is an awesome steak house "Indian Cliffs" just off I-10 at the Fabens exit east of El Paso.

MOJO   I think you might have been my first riding partner in 2006 from RC to Riverside .. This past year I was having a tribute book signed by all to the Family of LT Joe Theinert. This run is part of the 4 Corners Tour. I have 21 days to check in at  the 4 Corners of the USA . I am leaving ME on Sept 23 toBlaine .WA then San Ysidro,CA then across Tx to Key West Fl I believe I will be stopping in Abilene on the evening of Oct 5th .Its a long winding route so I have to say tentative ..any help  is  appreciated !I will be traveling with a Gold STAR Dad .

4Riden,    Abilene has a good string of hotels/motels along I-20 as you circle around the city.   A few of them are:  America's Best Inn, Hampton Inn, Super 8 Abilene North, Travel Inn, Residence Inn.   There are not very many restaurants, however, along the interstate.     You've got a better chance of finding the better eating places, as well as hotels, too, along their "loop" (which goes south).   Their loop is Hwy. 83/84/277, and will get you right back on I-20 on the east side.

Keep me posted as you travel through West Texas, in case you've got to find accommodations in another area.    I can give you some other suggestions.    If you won't have computer access while on the trip, email me and I'll give you a phone number to contact me or Wicked for help, ok?

Sounds like a great trip.   And it's just around the corner!   Clap

If you are headed to Key West, FL from Las Cruses, NM and have no specific reason for going I-20, I would continue on I-10 out of Van Horn, TX and take it all the way to Florida. Monitor the weather along the coastal area. It is tropical storm season. I think overall it would save you a few miles. Van Horn to Abilene is 335 miles. Van Horn to Kerrville is 370 miles so your ride for that day would be about the same mileage. Several places to eat and stay very near the highway in Kerrville. Raven and Sapper would be good sources for information on that area. They live nearby but not right in Kerrville. RIDE SAFE and enjoy the trip.

4Riden. Mojo and Ghost Rider have given you about the best route advice, and I live in Abilene. To see some of the best parts of Texas and a lot more than just the flatlands I would reccomend the I-10 route by Ray and by all means check in with Raven and Zapper.
Have a safe ride.

4Riden, let me know if you plan on the I-10 route.  Right off the I-10 & Hwy 16 in Kerrville you will have fuel, eating and hotel all within 4 blocks.  If you want to explore we can suggest some roads that would be good for you.  let us know when you will be coming through and maybe we can met for dinner.  Safe travels

4Riden If you get in touch with Ravin and have enough time she and Sapper might introduce you to our 3 favorite sisters. If you do get the chance just don't let them manhandle you. They can get pretty frisky at times.

PS I was refering to the sisters as getting frisky.
