Raven -- looks like you and I did the same thing.  Have about 100 flag color/powmia color beads and another 100 flag color/national defense ribbon color beads.  Picked up some American Flag pins from eBay but not pleased with the quality -- flags look ok but they used safety pins as connectors.  Will bring them along also.

Like I said, Great minds think alike!  Cool on the national defense ribbon.  I thought doing the Nam beads but have not started still thinking about it.

Gary,
I think Raven posted a comment regarding that yesterday morning.  Said she didn't see a problem nor do I.  The only think I can remember concerning that is the schools ask that we not give out candy.  That's counteractive to what they teach kids concerning safety.  I know quite a few RFTW riders are also PGR riders.  Heck, I'd kinda like a PGR pin.

Wow GaryB you sound like a two year old not getting his way.! Poor attitude guy.  Sorry but I think you are not getting the point here!  As Road Dawg said the question was answered.  If you were not clear on the answers then ask again to clear the question, but saying you just won't bring anything is childish.
Just my thought!

The last few years, the wife and I have been following our own tradition. We ride the CR and we've been buying 5 dozen or so red, white, and blue hacky sack balls to take to Gallup. After we arrive, we walk around and give the balls to the little kids. The look on their faces and their excitement has been a great experience. I think it leaves a good impression with the kids and their families that RFTW riders appreciate their support and all that the community does for us.

P.S. If you do anything similar to this, I want to mention that it's never a good idea to pass out your little gifts while on the road or on the bike. Wait till you're on foot. That way you can say hello and thank them.

I made about a 100 of the red/white/blue beads last year. They were nice but I wasn't sure my fingers were going to recuperate. I'm thinking about getting post cards from the grade schoolers where my daughter teaches to pass out. I'm also looking into some coloring books and patriotic story books that can be puchased through the American Legion catalogue.

The patriotic story books sound great, I did not know they had them.  We will have to look at the AL site again.  We saw a bunch of Mari Gras type beads go out last year on the SR and I think that would be good one's for this year as well since the Saints won the bowl this year.

My FNG year, I didn't know about taking things for the kids, and to the children this seemed okay.  They still had me autograph their tablets, books and t-shirts and gave me a "heroes welcome."

If you don't have any trinkets, just a big smile and providing your autograph will be enough.  Trust me they are not there for gifts, but to honor YOU.  Just be sure to donate as much as you are comfortable with.  It all goes to a wonderful cause (on both routes)

RedCatcher -- 100% on target.

GulfWarVet.  Ref Patriot Guard Pins.  Sure, bring them along.  As you visit with vets and kids along the way, things you share (your time, little gifts) mean a lot.  It helps remind them of the visit long after we left.

Ref pins, if you have a large stock, that's cool.  If you don't, check out the prices of the POW/MIA pins in the merchandise section.  It's really hard to beat the price they have for 100 pins (which won't last long)

Cheers

GD, think you could take the RFTW header and put with the picture?  Maybe take the picture on the bike.  You know kids they love pets.  I think that would be great.

Little business card or book markers with pictures of General would be a great idea.

Those are some good ideas.  Thanks.  I'll talk to the people in our marketing department.  I have a photo from last years Putts for Mutts ride with General in his pouch and Major in a pouch on my side.  I can have them photoshop me out of the pic and add the banner.  Will I need permission to use the banner?
